Does the media control sport stars?why?how?
control is the wrong word- i'd say interferes with the sports stars as they do with other celebrities. mostly because the media is 'gossip-hungry'.
Based on this, does it sound like I might be able to be a journalism major? thanks?
I'm a senior, and will be graduating in less than a month, and I'm going to community college for at least one year, probably two. Right now, I'm so confused, I'm an indecisive person and especially with this major stuff, because there's so many things I would be very interested in doing, but my question to myself is ' can I handle this and work at it through the thick and thin?'. I'm keeping journalism as one of my options right now. I was in a special 14 student writing class for 7th and 8th grade for 2 hours a day instead of one for people who had a knack for writing and it was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. Throughout high school as well, my english teachers always told me I was good at writing and come up with some really good stuff. I feel like writing is one of the things that really works for me. If I were to do journalism, I would want to eventually do entertainment/celeb journalism. Do I sound right for this or are there other qualities that I really need to have? And I wasn't on newspaper in hs, and I was wondering if that would affect me.

Yes you can go into journalism. The biggest difference between journalism and other forms of writing is the rules you need to follow. A basic news story needs to cover the 5 W's and H. That stands for who, what, when, where, how, and why. This information needs to be in the lead paragraph or in the first few paragraphs. Basically top heavy. Newspapers cut from the bottom up. Features (including entertainment) and magazine stories have different requirements and style. Even with the rules your style can come through.
As an entertainment reporter you'll need to cultivate sources in that industry.
In short to be a good jounalist you need to remember you are writing with certain goals in mind. You also need to be a people person. Best of luck.

One Show Dan Snow historian?
Just been watching the show and Snow tried to explain history to me a pleb from Bournemouth....but on at least one major historical point he got it wrong.
Henry took Hampton Court from Cardinal Wolsey BUT Wolsey though removed from power and up on charges of treason was not beheaded as Snow said.
Why, ohh why, ohh why do we have such useless presenters on the BBC.
They are too young,just out of school and cannot have the study or experience knowledge and good sense of someone who has actually studied their subject.
I think Cardinal Wolsey died of natural causes when he grew ill waiting for trial...and he was not beheaded.

Maybe he got one point wrong but I think he's pretty good. I particularly liked his 20th Century battle field programme co present with Peter Snow. So much so I wanted to buy it on DVD, though unfortunately they only had a book published.

What you major in in undergraduate school does not matter much. Just major in what you enjoy -- the key to college is just finishing any degree.

I'm taking a poll for a research paper. My paper is about if the rate of how quickly someone believes something on the media has really lessened since the "War of the Worlds" incident.
So, here's the question (and please answer honestly, no one knows who you are): Do you normally believe what you hear/see in the media? Not talking about tabloid rumors here, but like serious news. (like people thought "War of the Worlds" was.) Or do you question it, call around, research it, and find out what's really going on first? Or do you take it for what it says and go on?

It depends what kind of news it is. If it's talking about some local issue, like a shooting, I'm pretty quick to believe it, although i know a lot of it is made up. I do try and think about it from the point of view of the people who are involved, and try to think of what might be the "hidden angle," though.
When it comes to something government, I usually just blow it off...
Unless it's something outrageous, like AIG executives using bailout money for their own million-dollar bonuses. When it's something like that, I don't care if it's completely true or not. Because chances are if it ain't AIG, it's someone else.
Most of it is propaganda, so I'm very skeptical of anything I hear on the news or read in a newspaper or magazine. I do a lot of research before believing anything.

If you describe a perpetrator of a crime then colour is a distinguishing feature as much as eye colour, sex, height etc. If a black man has stolen a car then of course the police stop and question only black men. Simarly if a white man was seen stealing a car then there is little point in stopping a black woman. Someone I once knew in the police service got round this by calling everyone either dark green or light green. These days the only people that cant be discriminated against are white men. most of the answers i have received seem to have right wing talking points or sound bites on political questions. even many of the non political answers seen to lean that.

I think no one can so how do you... and how can you relay those so called facts to people when you don't even know their true? In other words, do you ever follow up and see with your own eyes that what your hearing is true and if not then can't i assume that everything i hear is potentially garbage?

Consider the Rush Limbaugh CBS news report with Katie Couric. CBS made a big deal out of playing a segment where Rush says he wants Obama to fail. Interesting enough however, they only played half of the sentence... over and over and never completed the sentence beyond those words to include that RL wants Obama to fail if his agenda is to turn the US into a socialist nation.
They all do it. Whether it's liberal media or conservative media... take things out of context and feed it to the masses.

Keith Olbermann, Sean Hannity...Bare knuckle fist fight?

Hannity. He already beat the tar out of Chris Matthews with an impressive series of left jabs before finishing him off with a thundering right cross. Olbermann looks like he'd be heavy on his feet...easy pickings for the lightning quick "Hammer" Hannity.
I'd put my money on Olbermann. I've only seen the two of them in pictures but Keith looks like he may have a reach advantage over Hannity. Sean didn't look that tall to me compared to the people he was standing next to. So I would have to give Keith the reach advantage unless Sean has some long, knuckle dragging arms which I doubt he has.
